Personal Goals

Personal Goals
I'm learning a lot by being a player in MM games. Both referees I play with use the rules in innovative ways, adding their own spin to the cream on my coffee.

One thing guillaume jentey does is personal goals. Players decide of a goal for their character, independently of what the party is doing. Last night we had things like Get groomed (Docteur Chestel plays a hellhound) or See a naked woman (I play a preteen thief).

I wouldn't recommend having more than one character goal active at any time for every player (but I like my level progression slow - YMMV). In any case, it works wonders to push players in unexpected and interesting directions. Give it a try!

  1. Norbert G. Matausch I think I've read Theatrix ages ago, but I've never played it. Why does it get such a high rating from you?

  2. would "follow the current PC goal" give XP in Macchiato Monster?

  3. Norbert G. Matausch Thanks. Sounds very interesting - it sounds like the stuff you learn when running Amber DRPG. I'll read this example when I'm on a real break.

Bruno Bord That's how the experience system works normally. You reach group goals like Find the Duke's son or Steal the goblin queen's treasure.

  4. I never heard about theatrix but it seems very interesting.
What i had just read seems almost the same things I try to do with Sandbucket.
I really like the idea that the action failed not because the character miss what he wants to do but because the ennemy is to strong, or it's to late or he has no luck... When we find different way to describe a succes or a fail.
I write a short list, not very clever but maybe useful for my little narrative FRENCH game called Sandbucket.
Maybe I can translate it and put it in the Macchiati Midget drive if someone wants ?
