A 'friend' might be considering using MM for a modern setting.

A 'friend' might be considering using MM for a modern setting. He's (NOT ME) thinking of giving money Risk Dice, but only operate with three types of money

Coins
Bills
Credit Cards

So you could have
A pocket of change D4

A wad of bills D8

A suitcase of crisp notes D10

A Dubai First Royale Mastercard (that's the one with a diamond on it, bro) D20

(Different currencies is a headache too far).

What is he missing?

  1. One of the systems I playtested used only one gold risk die: the higher it was, the richer you were. I went for something with more granularity, but your friend-who-is-not-you could certainly make it work like that.
So Money d6 could be a stack of £20 notes, a shopping cashcard, an almost empty bank account in Paris, a stolen necklace, or an encryption key for bitcoin (or whatever you use to access bitcoin)...

  2. Norbert G. Matausch I think a simpler currency mechanic makes sense in a lot of settings. I made mine crunchier because I like games that are all about resources.
