Should there be a cap on how often you can take the extra attack option on lvlup?

A level ten character having ten attacks a round seems kind of silly

  1. Every other level? I might house-rule that in.

  2. I don't know, does it? =)

In the fiction it doesn't have to be ten distinct sword blows, as the character will never have ten targets. It also depends on how long combat round is for you.

Also a tenth level PC is the best at what they do. Chun Li style lightning kicks aren't out of place in fantasy games (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BladeSpam)

  3. Good point.

I'd let them buy up their Specialist Training die instead of getting new ones (with a d10 cap)

  4. Also, if a Warrior takes an attack every turn, they are either not taking extra hit dice or they are not taking attribute increases. Even if they alternate hit dice and attribute increases, progress in those areas is slowed. Attribute increases are the only way to get better at your attack value. I think it's a fair tradeoff.

  5. I'm thinking that instead of level, combats should compare hit dice between opponents to decide who gets Disadvantage.

  6. Brett Slocum I've been slightly annoyed by the character level vs monster hit dice comparison. I thought it'd be more elegant if I were to give monsters levels. Comparing hit dice would fix the problem. Hmmm...

  7. Hit dice are simpler, no added stat for monsters....

  8. My reticence comes from the fact that hit dice aren't the best measure of a PC's fighting ability. But after all neither are levels, so...
