Questions and suggestions Eric Nieudan

Questions and suggestions Eric Nieudan
a) Suggestion for wording
On p. 4 Advantage and Disadvantage
If you have disadvantage, keep the best lowest result.
If you have advantage, keep the worst highest result.

Good or bad are relative because it is a roll-under-mechanic, right? So the best result is a low result and I find the original wording a bit unclear.

b) Questions re. Wealth
Splitting and merging
I can split a d12 silver pouch into 2 bags of silver d6, 3 pockets of silver d4, or a bag of silver d8 + pouch of d4?
But when I merge two bags, i.e. two bags of gold d4, I don't get a d8 but a d6.

I don't get it.
So, do I divide the number 12? Then it's 2x6, or 3x4 but why is it a bag of d8 and d4? So, I don't divide it, do I?
And when I have two bags of silver d6 and I would merge them together again, wouldn't I get a pouch of silver d8?

Please help, Eric O-Nieudi.

  1. a) Agreed. Clearer that way.

    b) Splitting an existing bag is straightforward: you have a d12 bag of silver? You can divide it however you want, provided that you end up with existing dice types of silver. So 2x6 or 3x4 or 8+4. A d20 barrel of gold? 2x10 or 5x4 or 8+6+6 or 10+6+4. "Divide" here is pretty loosely used as a synonym for "split." Why combining doesn't work the same way I can't say.

  2. Eric Nieudan explained the diffuclt to find the right wording, something also related to damage dice.

  3. A. What Lenny Pacelli said. You can have advantage/disadvantage on damage dice. I'll think it over again, but at the moment I can't think of a better wording.

    B. Rob Barrett Got it right. Whatever numbers add up to 12. But I'm thinking of using the same rule for merging and splitting.
I had different rules because wanted merging to be harder, so that characters don't get too rich too quick. But I feel it's too complicated atm, so expect revised wealth rules in the next PDF.

Hope this helps, Sopheia Brandorgana! ;p

  4. I'm agree with Eric Nieudan .
The "changing" money dR rules is difficult to explain but I think the existing one is correct.
Each times players want to change the dR, it must be the less interesting mecanism if you don't want to see characters who become rich only with playing with dR.
And the less interesting way is d8 become d4+d4 when you split and d4+d4 become d6.
It's difficult to defend in reality if you just think this dR a number of coins. But for me this dR is in fact somthing like Purchasing power or wealth and I think it's normal that it works in an unlinear way.
I don't think I'm really clear but I can assure you, this money rule seems weid when you read at first time but in game it works perfectly.

  5. I can't find the rule that says that you get advantage or disadvantage on damage dR. Can someone please help me out?

  6. on the gear table (page 9) you can see that some weapons give a disavantage to stat check and an avantage to damage.
But more simply, for me you can alawys use the avantage/disavantage rule (page 4) as in other games you can use a +1 or -1 on a dice.
For exemple, if you use a fire sword against a common creature you roll the damage as usual (maybe it's a lot of damage but it still a regular roll), against a wooden creature you may have a avantage rolling damage and against a fire resistant creature a disavantage roll.
I really love this game because as referee, you can always mix the 3 simple mecanisms of the rules (stat check, dR and avantage/disavantage) to create your own rule for a specific moment of your scenario.
For exemple, few days ago, I played a trial scene in using CHA ckeck, a dR which represented if they designed guilty and avantgage/disavantage on the dR if they said goods things or succeded on their CHA checks.
So to be more simple, for each dice (stat or dR) as referee you just have to ask to yourself if the character or the situation (for a dR for exemple) is advantaged or diadvantaged.
Once again: this game is awesome !

  9. I'd have said something if you hadn't :)
It's possible that more rules will feature advantage/disadvantage on damage and risk dice, Sophia Brandt. I'm still experimenting with this.
