Possible official rule: sacks, bags and backpacks
Instead of ruling that only backpacks give you an extra two slots of gear, and having to explain that the backpack doesn't count as an item, I'm just thinking:
Roll you bag's dR every time you fill it up to capacity: the result is the number of items you can comfortably fit in it. A step down means the bag is damaged somehow.
Satchels, bags, sacks, backpacks come in sizes dR4 to dR8, unless unusually big. Bags and sacks need to be carried by hand most of the time.
Little update: if you're not happy with your roll, you can roll again after a number of combat turns equal to your result.
ReplyDeleteSay you're packing in a hurry because some monsters have been spotted close to the camp. Your backpack's dR8 gives you a 2, which is not enough to carry all your items. If you have two combat turns to spare, you can roll again - but it's a dR6 now... You probably ripped the bottom of the bag packing those daggers.
We can also say that, taking out something in the middle of a fight or stressful situation requires a dR roll. If you roll less than the items you're currently carrying, you have to do some stuff while getting to the thing you wanted.
I'm liking this Eric Nieudan! But my version of MMzero says that a character can comfortably carry one item per CON or STR point (your choice). Armour doesn’t count towards this number. If you’re willing to be encumbered, you can carry a number of items equal to your STR+CON. So the game just assumes you stash stuff in packs, on belts etc, yeah?
ReplyDeleteWith the dR container system, maybe there could be a 'slot' system too? Just some ideas on how best to carry stuff? Folks can hand-wave it if they aren't interested.
That means that your STR or CON gives you how many items you can carry, but the slot system says where.
Like Matt Rundle's concept:

Nathan Roberts I actually like graphical slots system for inventories. But I suspect everyone doesn't draw on their character sheet ;)
ReplyDeleteThat said I was thinking about slots to better deal with available items (what's at your belt, what's in hand, what's in your backpack). It would be easy to allocate lines on the gear section in the character sheet for all that.
