Yes, we started as a one-shot... but the players are to full of ideas to made a "one evening story"... so we played at least 4 evenings. Then, we keep the same characters, I created one (beause before I was referee) and Whidou (one of the players) became referee for 3 or 4 news evenings... We just finished this part (or a ârt of this part) and now Docteur Chestel will make us play in his arc. So it's not exactly a campaign, it's a big story with different arcs run by different referees. And, I gonna make an open table sandbox campaign of Robusta Robots ( MM in retro SF universe) but for now we played only one time.
For the Robusta Robots campaign, I try something like this : It's a explorating mission in th solar system. Each game session is a mission (on a new planet or on an already visit one...). The players decide that they want to do. The only rule is that at the end of the game session everybody is back in the Percolator (the main starship) for debriefing. So each time, it's another mission with the players who are here. I prepared a lot of blank maps, vintage illustrations and tables to create planets and stories. The first mission was very fun for me to run ! And the story was totally unexpected !
Teleportation, rescue group from the ship...Or I kill them all ! I don't know... it will depend of the story. I just say that we gonna finish at 23h30 so, I will try to find a kind of end to the present story at 23h... Maybe sometime it would be difficult.
You should ask guillaume jentey : he plays one shot of 4 to 5 sessions :)

Guillaume's game turned into a series of arcs, reffereed by different players. Fun aside, it's very informative =)

guillaume jentey so what happens if you have 10 minutes left in the session and they're not back at the ship? Do you hand wave it?

I ran Keep on the Borderlands. It worked well. It was a two-shot, so... only slightly longer than a one-shot.
ReplyDeleteMy one-shots usually turn out to be two-shots anyway. :-)
