Has anyone done a Macchiato Monsters Warhammer hack?
Has anyone done a Macchiato MonstersWarhammer hack? I have grown to appreciate random character génération, and the carrier choices from this venerable game may work wonder for a Macchiato hack.
I have been rereading a few carriers (I don't know if that's the english word), and I don't know if it would work as easily as I thought. Per carrier, you have : A bunch of available characteristic augmentation (not easily convertible to the sacred 6 characteristics from MM) A bunch of available skills - looks like the traits from MM, but do I want my PCs to have dozen of traits? A bunch of stuff - easily convertible.
Easiest way to do it would be to allow carriers to be free traits, allow every other level to be a new carrier (with the dependancy tree from the original game) and nothing more. Not really satisfying, but not too much work.
Another way would be convert every enhancements into the MM ruleset, transform skills into traits, let PCs buy enhancements, and make everything else flow like regular Warhammer. Question, though, hjow do you convert "+5 CC" into MM?
I wouldn't bother with converting things like attribute advances.
Keeping the career tree and using the job itself as a trait would work great. On top of that, you could have each career list its own version of the level up options.
For example, the Druid would have a choice of 2 among: - research a new spell - add 1 to Wisdom or Constitution - gain one hit die - make a friend or home base in the wilderness
Magical, Specialist, and Combat training would be given by the starting classes, as well as some equipment.
Using the job as a trait would be lame for many of them, especially lower level. I don't know the original names, but Chiffonier, Ratter or Coalier don't seem to be trait one would use in game. Your exemple for the Druid would work, though.
But +5 CC would easily convert into +1 Str, for attack only, and that would probably work for most attribute advances.
Pierre M Wouldn't that feel like a poorly handled skills system after a while? I think rat-catcher and the like as traits can be interesting to play - creative players will make them useful in interesting ways.

ReplyDeleteI'm not aware of one. It'd be interesting to tackle though!
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea.
ReplyDeletei'd start a WH-esque game at level zero, I think.
