Here's a mix of encounter and exploration dR table. Roll a d4 alongside it and you get a situation. From a forgotten potion to an ambush by the main faction, with a few clues and durations in the mix.

    Anyway, I love the idea of "something happening" rather than just "here is something, deal with it"

  4. Pierre M It's not just my idea.I started working on something like this after seeing stuff from Odd Chris and Black Dave.

  7. I just used a similar table for a wilderness adventure, though not as many entries (d20). It combined everything you could run into, including bad weather, game and forage, monsters, ruins, etc. The table was set up so 1-10 was things that might happen if you were moving or stationary, and 11-20 was things you only run into if moving. The idea being that you roll a d10 when camping overnight, and d20 when traveling.

    I like this.

  8. Simple compared to your tables, but here you go.

    Encounter Table
    1-2. Edible plants: d6: 1-5 d4 food, 6: d4 medicinal herbs
    3-5. Predators: Roll d6: 1: cave lion, 2: grizzly bear, 3: wolf, 4: scimitar-tooth cat, 5: boar, and 6: cave hyena
    6-8. Game animals: a successful STR or DEX test to get d6 food. Roll d6: 1-3 no leather, 4-6: leather
    9. Weather, very hot: move rate halved, double water consumption.
    10. Weather, very rainy: move rate halved, sleeping uncomfortable unless in cave.
    11. Stream: fill water bottle or drink for the day.
    12. Wood: Roll d6: good for: 1-2: arrows, 3-4: club, 5: bow, 6: spear.
    13. Stones: Roll d6: 1-4: stones for sling or throwing, 6: stones for flint knapping
    14. Cave: Roll d6: 1-3 = empty, 4-6 = Lair, roll on Predator table
    15-16. Hazard/Survival check: Roll d6: 1 = landslide, 2 = flood, 3 = pit, 4 = lost.
    17. Dead humans: use Equipment charts for possessions
    18. Lair: roll on Predator table
    19. Ruins: use Dyson's Delves and a dungeon encounter chart
    20. Tracks or signs: reroll ignoring 20.

  9. Brett Slocum I like the variety of results you have. I'd never have thought of wood and stones as resources...
    Also two weather results - the ones that affect traveling the most. Great integration of weather in the table. I'll be yoinking this when I adapt my table to wilderness adventures!

  10. Oh, sorry. I should explain. This was for a stone age "coming of age" game (for Tekumel caninoids), where each character got one tool. So they need to make or find tools. (No, sorry, it was The Petal Hack, not MM.)

  13. Ok : I use your table in party !
    I changed things on it to made it logical with my story (cultists became orcs and kobolds squeletons, for exemple...).
    It was interesting because I roll on this table 4 times in the scenario and each time it makes appears things I didn't expect (because nobody expct the spanish inquisition) and which create good moment in the story.
    For exemple, maybe it's a wrong using of your tool but... in a moment of my "dungeon" I roll ally/campsite. It was in a moment where it was very stange that the characters could find some allies because it was just behind a concealed place. So I decided that the hirelings wanted to make a camp because they were tired... It creates a interesting moment to play between the characters and the NPCs.
    So I liked what this table gave me !
    Now you have to try to write a kind of universal one !
